Good day! In this tutorial you will learn how to light up the analog stick on your nunchuck! I will be providing 2 methods of doing this. One is not necessarily easier than the other.. it's more a preference. Disclaimer- I am in no way responsible for your actions. Supplies- Soldering Iron Soldering Sponge Solder (Rosin Core/.022dia) Wire (30awg.. not used in Method 2) 3mm LED color of your choice* Resistor* Tri-wing Screwdriver *In this tutorial I used a 3mm Blue LED (3.3v/30ma). I have yet to test an LED that requires 2.1v (such as Red). Assuming that the nunchuck outputs 3.3v, you'll need to use an 82ohm 1/4w resistor to properly power a 2.1v LED. Where to get LEDs- www.sickmods.net www.lsdiodes.com www.ledshoppe.com www.ebay.com Where to get a Tri-wing Screwdriver- www.sickmods.net www.otbmods.com www.modchipman.com www.modchipstore.com www.Ebay.com My tri-wing screwdriver looks like this- ![]() Method 1- Using wire Step 1- Disassembling the nunchuck: Use this tutorial- Link Step 2- Finding the solder points: The mod will revolve around these 2 points. Notice that Red = Positive and Black = Negative. ![]() Step 3- Bending your LED: Bend your LED like so- ![]() ![]() Step 4- Transplanting legs with wires: You may want to mark one of the legs or use different colored wire. Cut off one leg and solder a wire to it like this- ![]() ![]() Then do that with the other leg. Once you've done that.. measure out around 1-1.5in of wire and give it a snip. But prepare to trim if needed! Step 5- Positioning and soldering: Position the LED like so and solder the wires to their appropriate spots. ![]() ![]() Step 6- Testing: Plug your nunchuck into your wiimote. Press a button..and if you've installed the LED correctly, it should light up! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 7- Reassembling: Make sure your C and Z buttons are in place. Make sure you put the analog stick back on correctly. Place the top of the nunchuck back on. Screw back together. Step 8- Testing once more: ![]() ![]() ![]() Method 2- Origami with your LED Step 1- Disassembling the nunchuck: Use this tutorial- Link Step 2- Finding the solder points: -Notice that Red = Positive and Black = Negative. ![]() Step 3- Testing your origami skills: Here comes the difficult part. You're gonna need to grab your LED and start bending it. Make sure you have the positive leg going towards the positive point and the negative leg going towards the negative leg. You can either wrap up the legs of your LED with electrical tape/heat shrink or lay some electrical tape onto the PCB. In this picture (my first attempt at this mod), I decided to just place electrical tape on the PCB ![]() Step 4- Testing: Plug your nunchuck into your wiimote.. press a button.. and if you did it all correctly.. it should light up! Step 5- Reassembling: Make sure your C and Z buttons are in place. Make sure you put the analog stick back on correctly. Place the top of the nunchuck back on. Screw back together. Step 6- Testing once more. ![]() ![]() Wiimote and Nunchuck Together- ![]() ..A button mod tutorial, along with other tutorials, coming soon! Hope this tutorial helps! |
